WHAT MAKES A DAY

A Scholar's Day

Look inside a typical school day

We pack our time with scholars to ensure that every minute is filled with learning and fun. Students in grades K-6 and 7-8 have the following blocks in their day.

  • Elementary Grades - K-6

    • Meeting of the Minds: Each morning Scholars come together to connect and have a strong positive start to their day.
    • Breakfast: We provide free breakfast for all Scholars each day.
    • Wit & Wisdom: Each day there is a 90-minute reading and writing block where scholars engage with high-quality diverse texts.
    • Zearn: Scholars have a blended 90-minute math block that is partly online and partly with their teacher.
    • Fundations: Great readers come into their own once they've mastered Phonics. Most grades have a 70-minute Fundations block for this.
    • Recess: Getting out to play is key to a great day! All grades have a recess block each day.
    • Integrated Arts: Scholars rotate between Physical Education, Art, and Music each day.
    • Lunch: Lunch is provided for free for all Scholars each day with a rotating menu of options.
    • Independent Time: Scholars have some independent time in their day where they can dive into one of their independent reading books or hop onto one of our countless online learning platforms.

CURRICULUM MATTERS

Wit & Wisdom

Scholars in grades K-8 get their hands on high-quality texts with our ELA curriculum, Wit and Wisdom. Students use these texts at every turn — to learn and eventually master essential reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. Instead of basals or leveled readers, Wit & Wisdom students read books they love to build knowledge of important topics – like the four seasons, the American Revolution, or space exploration - and master literacy skills. The books aid social and emotional development, allowing students to see themselves and others in each lesson.

Zearn

Zearn Math is the only curriculum top-rated by EdReports that unites hands-on instruction and immersive digital learning. When teachers teach with Zearn Math, kids learn the same concepts twice: once with their teacher and peers and once independently in self-paced digital lessons.

Amplify Science

We know that Science is key to a well-rounded education and see it as a core subject. We use Amplify Science which blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers. We only use the best learning materials and just like in ELA and Math, this is one of the highest-rated curriculums in the country.

TCI

Social Studies is key for our Scholars to be able to go out and change the world. We call Social Studies "Global Literacy" because we bring in diverse perspectives from around the globe.  We amplify voices to bring lessons to life that are rooted in equity.

Wilson Language

In order to excel in reading, we know that deeply understanding phonics is key. In our K-4 classrooms daily phonics and language lessons are bringing learning to life. Teachers track student progress closely to ensure that students are getting exactly what they need... When they need it. Scholars in grades K-3 receive instruction using the Wilson Fundations curriculum, Geodes, and Heggerty.

Music

Scholars in grades K-4 and 5-8 have Music as a part of their Integrated Arts courses. Our expert teachers take an active approach based on a child’s creativity that teaches music in the same way children acquire language. You will find our scholars singing, playing instruments, and moving non-stop in these classes.

P.E.

Movement is key to a healthy lifestyle. Our amazing Physical Education team works to ensure scholars have P.E. classes that teach key aspects of sports, wellness, teamwork, and more. From the gym to the fields scholars are moving non-stop during this class.
