Rebuilding Stronger & Future Focused

Our mission comes alive through our motto: “Pushing onwards towards the future,” or Adelante. Adelante pushes us to always think and dream about that future and to inspire scholars to be leaders in their communities.

Since the Fall of 2021, our partners at Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) have worked hard on their Rebuilding Stronger initiative. Their guiding principles closely align with what it will take to ensure that every scholar in Indianapolis has the school experience they deserve.

We know that the sizable systematic change proposed in this plan will take partners that work in Swing together. Our school shows academic success in supporting all students and explicitly closing the opportunity gap for students of color. For example, Emma Donnan was in the top 10 schools in Center Township to raise proficiency for Black students.

While this is a promising start, we know that more is needed to address education inequities and ensure we provide the absolute best for our scholars. We join IPS in Solidarity as we are “Future Focused” and are proud to have each of you as partners.

Read how the proposed changes will impact our community below.

Commited to our Model

  • Our unbeatable school culture that puts scholars and families at the center of our work
  • We will be staying K-8 so that families can call Emma Donnan home for elementary and middle school
  • An unapologetic focus on academics that puts the best teachers in front of our scholars
  • Accelerated and targeted literacy instruction daily
  • Scholar choices - We offer robust music, art, and fitness programs for all scholars
  • Scholar Life - We offer over 20 clubs for scholars to find their interests and run with them, in addition to athletics for all grades
  • World-Class Facilities - We have already replaced every piece of furniture in our school to create spaces that scholars want to be and are proud of
  • After Care - Learning shouldn’t stop at the last bell. We offer free after-school care for all scholars

Meeting the Moment

  • A larger enrollment area that provides transportation for everyone in our zone
  • An on-campus restaurant that makes breakfast and lunch for scholars from scratch daily
  • We are going to keep our focus on making our building the best by investing in remodeling common spaces and adding a new playground
  • A media literary course for all scholars that puts books in hands and digital citizenship at the forefront

Beyond Emma Donnan

  • Starting with the 2023-2024 School Year we will have a larger transportation zone

FAQs

See some common questions and answers below, or email us at info@adelanteschools.org

  • What impact do these changes have for this school year?

    The 2022-2023 School Year:

    • No changes for any K-8 Scholars
  • Will After-care be offered?

Yep! After-care will still be offered and will be free.

  • What special programs will you offer?

Our school model is based on two core pillars. The best teachers with the best resources and the best scholar experience. These two things drive us to have the best academic offerings possible.

  • How will this impact Special Education and English Learners

Our Academic Collaboration Team (ACT) is now and always will be focused on supporting our Special Education and English Learner populations. With a focus on K-5, they will have smaller cohorts of scholars to support.

TRANSPORTATION & ZONES

Indianapolis Public Schools is proposing enrollment zones for the city. These zones would ensure safe passage to and from school each day weather that be by bus, walking, car, or biking. In partnership with our city officials, they plan to improve existing infrastructure to make that a reality. We fully support this shift as it will allow for us to:

  1. Have clearer zones for families to receive transportation.
  2. Improve the stability for scholars and families when it comes to enrollment. The larger zone means that moving down the street will likely not mean you have to move schools.
