Be First Day Ready

Jordan Habayeb • Jul 28, 2023

Dear Families,

Excitement is in the air as we gear up for the start of a new school year. As a child, I vividly remember the mix of emotions that the first day brought: the jitters of meeting new friends and teachers, the thrill of exploring unfamiliar classrooms, and the joy of diving into fresh adventures. That enthusiasm still resonates with me today, and I can't wait to see our students experience the same sense of wonder and excitement on their first day.

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable start, I'm thrilled to share vital information you'll need. From arrival and dismissal procedures prioritizing safety and efficiency, to uniform guidelines fostering unity and pride – we've got you covered. Moreover, get ready for a delightful surprise: our exciting new partnership with Patachou, promising mouthwatering meals for our students.

The first day of school is a day of many emotions - nervousness and curiosity blend seamlessly with anticipation and happiness. But rest assured, we are dedicated to creating an environment where each child feels welcome, supported, and ready to flourish.

Let's make this journey one to remember and cherish for a lifetime!

Warm regards,

Mr. Habayeb

Arrival & Dismissal

CARLINE

  • Carline for arrival and dismissal has moved. All cars will enter off Troy Ave. and follow the drive around the back of the building. Please stay very close to the curb.
  • A staff member will then direct cars into designated spots to unload/load scholars into the vehicle.
  • Once scholars are securely in/out of a vehicle, they can pull out and forward to leave.
  • Please ensure you are moving at a low speed through our campus for the safety of all.

  • Doors open at 7:20. Please do not drop off your scholar before then.
  • Scholars must exit the driver's side of their vehicle and follow the crosswalk up to Door Three where a staff member will welcome them.
  • Please always wait for a staff member to waive you for an open spot.
  • At 7:30, the gates to Carline will close, and scholars will be considered tardy. They will need to enter through the Main Office with an adult.

  • Dismissal begins at 2:20 and that is when scholars will exit the building.
  • Families must have their Emma Donnan hangtag in their car's window so that our team can put it into our app.
  • Once the number is in the app, a staff member will send your scholar(s) out.
  • Carline closes at 2:30. Late scholars must be picked up from the Main Office.

BUS RIDERS

  • All bus routes are done through Indianapolis Public Schools.
  • Families can track their scholar's bus by using the FirstView App. Info on how to set this up is here.
  • Bus stop times and locations are communicated by IPS. You can call our Main Office and we will try to help you out.

  • It takes three days to generate a bus stop from IPS.
  • If you have not received a bus stop time and location, please call our Main Office at (317) 226-4272 or call IPS at (317) 226-4000.

WALKERS & BIKE RIDERS

  • All walkers and bike riders enter Door One in the morning and leave through Door 10 in the afternoons.
  • Bikes can be parked on our playground after entering Door One.
  • Walkers/bike riders must have a set form of transportation. We are unable to have them switch frequently from car to bike.
  • Families that are walking to pick up their scholars also go to Door 10.

UNIFORMS

All uniforms must be purchased online. They are then shipped to your home.

Why?

  • This is a lower-cost option for families. The shirts are less expensive and better quality. You also have a lot more to choose from. Shirts arrive in 4-7 days from the time of the order.

A Message from Mr. Gammons... Hello EDEMS families! As we enter the final month of the 2023-2024 school year, it's incredible to see how time has flown by. Despite being near the end of this academic year, our scholars continue to engage in the daily pursuit of learning. During the first week of May, scholars will complete their ILEARN testing. We extend our gratitude for their unwavering commitment and dedication to attendance and active participation throughout the testing period. Scholars were honored with special lunches and rewards for their dedication to excellence during the assessments. In this month, scholars will partake in extra celebrations linked to ILEARN. A select group of scholars will experience an in-house visit with Sub Zero Ice Cream and/or enjoy a movie screening at the nearby AMC theater. Permission slips will be sent home soon! Additionally, as part of the ILEARN testing process, preliminary results will be communicated to the school in May. There will be a designated period where families and schools can request a rescore for scholars who are on the verge of passing. Mr. Rooney will be making personal contact with families who fall under this category within the initial weeks of May. Families can anticipate receiving their scholars' final scores during the summer. This month's newsletter is packed with details about the numerous events happening in May. Please thoroughly peruse it to stay updated on all the upcoming activities. We look forward to having you join us at one of our events. Onward, Mr. Gammons
